Kirkjufell in Game of Thrones
The HBO production of George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones series was shot throughout Iceland, with Kirkjufell being one of the most famous filming locations. This arrowhead mountain located on the north side of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula is first seen by two characters as a vision: Bran Stark witnesses it when he learns about the White Walkers, and the Hound believes the mountain was sent by the Lord of Light when he sees it lit up in flames.
In the Game of Thrones series, Kirkjufell is simply called ‘The Mountain Shaped Like an Arrowhead.’ The production was filmed here both in the summer and winter, however, none of the actors were shot directly in front of the mountain, being superimposed against the backdrop instead.
